I’m Shantell La’Nise Owens, a wife, mom, entrepreneur, and future attorney on a mission to make the business and legal side of entrepreneurship less intimidating.
After building my career in the beauty industry, I made the bold decision to pivot into law in my late 30s through California’s Law Office Study Program. My journey is about proving that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself, chase your dreams, and step fully into the life you want.
Here, I blend law, business, and lifestyle to share what I’m learning as I study to become an Intellectual Property attorney while helping entrepreneurs like you protect what you’re building. Whether it’s through resources, filing support, or responding to USPTO notices, I believe you deserve clarity and confidence in every step of your business journey.
When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me creating content for my YouTube channel, studying for the Baby Bar, or just enjoying the softer side of life with my family.
This isn’t just about law for me. It’s about helping people stop second guessing, take action, and build businesses that feel official.

Filed my very first trademark application.I had no clue this moment would be the start of something so aligned.

February 2025
Decided to Pursue Law School
After my dad and one of my close friends pushed me to study law, it finally clicked. I was like you know what this actually makes sense. I stopped second guessing myself and started moving like I belonged in the legal space.
May 2025
Got approved for the California Law Office Study Program
I got approved for the California Law Office Study Program. Instead of taking the traditional law school route, I’ll be earning my legal education through hands-on experience under a supervising attorney. This path feels right for me.
July 2025
Started working as a contracted legal assistant
Since I couldn’t start in June as planned, my supervising attorney hired me as a contracted legal assistant. Even though I had already helped clients file their trademarks, I’m now working alongside an attorney, helping her with trademark filings, responding to Office Action Notices, and drafting trusts. I’ll keep this role even when I begin my legal studies since it gives me hands-on experience in different areas of business law.
